About this tool
Encode an individual URL component, such as a query parameter value, using percent encoding. This is different from preserving the separators in an entire URL.
When to use it
- Prepare a query parameter value.
- Encode characters that have a special meaning in URLs.
- Inspect percent encoding of multilingual text.
How to use it
- Paste the component or text to encode.
- Choose Encode and review the percent-encoded result.
- Copy it into the intended URL component.
Input and output example
Input
hello world & status=ready
Output
hello%20world%20%26%20status%3Dready
Important details
- Encoding a complete URL also encodes its separators; use this for a component when appropriate.
- Multi-line text is preserved and line breaks are encoded.
- Percent encoding is not encryption.
Frequently asked questions
Why do spaces become %20?
The tool uses encodeURIComponent-style percent encoding, not form-style plus signs.
Should I encode the entire URL?
Usually encode the specific value or component required by your application, not an entire address indiscriminately.
